The main goal of Fossa Travel is to show the most adventurous travellers and the bravest, most open-minded tourists one of the last remaining, almost untouched natural treasures on earth, a landscape of fabulous beauty, unique endemic wildlife and very special culture.
Because from our own experience, there really aren’t many places like Nosy Be and the surrounding archipelago left on earth.
Fossa Travel is actually a Hungarian-Madagascar joint venture.
We were in Nosy Be and the surrounding islands on New Year’s Eve 2020, in the middle of the covid epidemic, and the idea was born to show this fairytale world to others, and then of course in a unique way, in a quality worthy of this paradise on earth.
Our company was founded by 3 of us. I am Péter Bojtos Zoltán, my sweetheart Linda Hanga and our Malagasy friend Jaomisy Maxime Houmad, son of the Malagasy Sakalava tribe from Nosy Be.
As a boy I studied zoology at the University of Veterinary Medicine, and since I was a kid I have been a big fan of special creatures, both animals and plants, and of remote, fantastic, inaccessible landscapes that just few people see.
Another great and eternal love of my life is the world of gemstones.
In my everyday life, I have been running my business in the centre of the Hungarian gem and jewellery trade for over 25 years. Primarily, as a member of the International Diamond Exchanges, I deal in wholesale diamonds, as well as in coloured gemstones and jewellery production.
My partner Linda has also been in the Hungarian jewellery business for almost 25 years, is an office manager for a gold jewellery wholesaler.
She is also a nature lover, interested and open to unspoilt culture, authentic, diverse experiences, outdoor adventures and last but not least a great animal lover.
Our friend, Maxime has a degree in tourism from the University of Antananaviro, the capital of Madagascar.
After his schooling, he worked as a tourist guide in the northern region of Madagascar for about 6 years, and then for another 2 years in Nosy Be and the adjacent tiny fantastic jungle island of Nosy Komba (the island of the lemurs), he managed 2 hotels with tropical luxury eco-bungalows with fantastic drive, attention, discipline and dedication.
It was on this tiny fabulous island of Nosy Komba that Maxim and we met on the 28th of December 2020… and then suddenly everything came together very quickly.
Because here we really had everything we wanted together!
The (still) healthy-looking tropical coral reefs and cliffs, with millions of interesting and colourful fish, snails, shells and lots of gentle sea turtles.
You’ll see hump whales, swim with giant whale sharks, manta rays and turtles, and meet lots of dolphins. And, if you’re really lucky, you might even get to see a sea turtle nesting and laying eggs on the beach or baby turtles hatching from their eggs and crawling out of the sand, making fun movements as they fleeing in the sea.
And on land, you’re greeted by a tropical jungle full of mango, banana, cocoa, vanilla, papaya, jackfruit, coconut, pineapple, coffee, pepper and much more.
The jungle is inhabited by kind and unspoilt natives, living in tiny jungle villages, just as it was a few hundred years ago. They mainly grow cocoa, bananas and vanilla and welcome any visitors who wander by.
And alongside the jungle, ylang-ylang plantations with their intoxicating scent are dotted all over Nosy Be Island. It’s no coincidence that Nosy Be is also known as the fragrant island.
Fantastic biodiversity found nowhere else (nearly 90% of the species on Madagascar are endemic), friendly and funny lemur families, lots of different species of chameleons, geckos, lizards and snakes, tropical butterflies everywhere… but not a single life-threatening animal anywhere in Madagascar.
Madagascar is an untouched world. A special island where no one is in a hurry. They have an expression for it, mora mora, which is also their way of life.
And if that weren’t enough, Madagascar is the main candidate for new gemstone deposits in the future. Fantastic quality blue, green and pink sapphires, tourmalines, beautiful emeralds and many more are starting to emerge from Madagascar.
As a professional gem hunter and traveller, I have been to nearly 50 countries, but only the northern tropical region of Madagascar has captivated me to such an extent that it has resulted in the short-lived Madagascar-based Fossa travel.
Well, very briefly, it was a combination of these circumstances that led to the creation of our company Fossa Travelt Nosy Be in early 2021. And in the spring of 2022, we opened our tropical travel agency in the main square of Hell Ville, the capital of Nosy Be.
