About this tour

Nosy Be Budget Island tour 1.

An individual tuktuk or light car tour, visiting the most interesting sights.

(If you’re a more adventurous traveler, or haven’t tried it yet, we definitely  recommend the Tuk-Tuk)

A very direct and personal experience with your own guide and a freely modifiable itinerary.

See what really interests you, without any time limits or location restrictions.

You can immerse yourself in the colourful and noisy cavalcade of an authentic African market, swim in the cooling waters of a hidden jungle-waterfall, get up close and personal with special animals (many species of lemurs, giant tortoises from 1 to 200 years old, crocodiles and of course many kinds of chameleons) that you won’t see in their natural habitat elsewhere, admire a ylang-ylang distillery in action, and much more.

And if you like, the programme can be completed during the day with a traditional and authentic Malagasy lunch in one of Nosy Be’s best traditional restaurants.

BAZARY BE

Sightseeing, tasting and shopping.

The first stop on our day trip to the fragrant island is Hell Ville, the capital of Nosy Be. Nosy Be’s Big Market (Bazary Be) is located in the main square, opposite our office. Refreshments, tea, coffee in our office, then head across the square to the colourful and noisy cavalcade of the covered city market and the neighbouring streets, down to the beach, all filled with exotic spices, oils, fruits, a wide variety of sea crabs, shrimps and fish, all kinds of weavings and much more….

Honestly, if you have a good eye, you can even find a pair of skis at Bazary Be!

And there will be plenty of time for a good shopping spree or to try some local flavours or drinks, like coca or ginger rum…

Lemuria Land

Right after Bazary Be we take a tuk-tuk (or car) to Lemuria Land. Let’s say it’s a kind of natural zoo. In this beautifully manicured jungle park, you can get up close and personal with more than 10 species of lemurs. Here you can see 3 extremely rare mighty Aldabra giant tortoises, the oldest of which is over 213 years old (!!!), other very rare ones such as radiated, box and spider tortoises, the largest chameleons which are well over half a metre long, baby and giant Nile crocodiles, colourful tropical birds and many other interesting species, and you can even touch and pet them. We will visit their ylang-ylang distillery, the oldest and one of the largest in Nosy Be, fortunately we can admire it at work amidst an intoxicating cloud of fragrance.

Cascade

Swimming in a hidden waterfall in the jungle

We either have lunch at Hell Ville’s best Malagasy restaurants (special request) or go to visit the waterfall.

After a 40-minute tuk-tuk ride, we leave the tarmac road and continue on a dirty, mud road. We pass through some ylan-ylang fields before stopping at a village on the jungle’s edge. A 5-10 minute jungle walk & we head for the cooling lake of the waterfall. It’s a wonderful experience to swim between huge rock walls under the waterfall. You can even swim under the waterfall, and the really brave travelers can cliff-jump, guided by local children who always accompany us. No wonder, it’s also a sacred place, and they look after us, and according to legend the cave of the waterfall was a cave of the sirens.

After as an extra request, we can visit the nearby small but quality restaurant run by the fish smoking company. They serve excellent fresh smoked fish sandwiches and main courses.

Finally, we can return to Hell Ville or you can head straight back to your hotel.
