The first stop on our day trip on the fragrant island is a visit to the sacred tree.
The Sacred Tree itself, spread over 5,000 square meters, has the atmosphere of the Tree of Life in the movie Avatar. We’ll even be lucky enough to meet the friendly Lemur family who live here.
Then we arrive in Hell Ville, the capital of Nosy Be. Refreshments, tea, coffee at our office in the main square, then we head to the covered city market across the square, which is packed with exotic spices, oils, fruits, a wide variety of sea crabs and fish, all kinds of weavings and much more.
Some free time for shopping and then we head to Ambanoro. Founded before 1800 the village is the first town of Nosy-Be.
We visit the village and Nosy-Be’s cultural heritage: the Spirit House, the old Indian cemetery.
In Ambanoro, we will get an insight into the folk art traditions of Nosy-Be through the tribal dances of the RAVINALA Women’s Association.
Then lunch at one of Nosy Be’s best traditional Malagasy restaurants in Hell Ville.
After lunch, we will visit to the hidden and sacred waterfall of Nosy Be.
We will have time to swim in the waterfall and for the brave ones, even jump into the water from the cliffs…
After lunch, it’s a good half-hour drive to the hidden sacred waterfall in the heart of Nosy Be.
Here, a short 10-minute walk through the jungle leads to the waterfall. You will have about an hour and a half to two hours to admire this natural beauty and take a dip in the waterfall’s cool waters. You can even jump off the cliffs into the lake. We are always accompanied by some locals, mainly children who are very friendly and helpful. They are happy to show us where we are allowed to jump from, but they are also careful not to violate the sanctity of the place.
In the main square of Hell Ville, there is the indoor city market full of exotic spices, oils, fruits, a wide variety of seafood, all kinds of weavings and much more. There will be plenty of time to browse and buy souvenirs, fruits, spices and oils. But you can also wander into the surrounding streets, where the market continues endlessly all the way to the beach.
Swimming under a curtain of water in a waterfall hidden in a dense tropical jungle is an extraordinary experience.
The African folk dance of the RAVINALA women’s association in the quiet and friendly Ambanoro, visited by few, will also remain a special memory.
Especially, if you try the Lemur, or Crocodile dance together with the native women!
The hustle and bustle of the local market, with its cavalcade of colours and scents, will enchant anyone.
In this one-day trip, we bring it all together to give you a taste of the historical, cultural and gastronomic aspects of Nosy Be, with a touch of the exotic.
